Letter: We need to smile again

In this Monday, May 11, 2020 photo, members of the T-Rex Walking Club walk through a neighborhood in Ferndale, Mich. The group takes its unannounced strolls through neighborhoods on a quest to bring smiles to the faces of kids, and a few adults, while under Michigan's stay-at-home order due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We need more humor, not just that kind that vilifies but that up-lifts us to a higher plane.

We need more compassion, especially for those with whom we disagree. Discussions without rancor matter.

We need more tenacity to stay whatever course we've chosen to take, even against rebuke or derision.

We need more intellect to discern fact from fantasy, ours and others.

We need to believe we all make a difference and that wrongs can be righted.

We need to bend more quickly when proven — with facts, not emotions — to be in error.

And we must learn to smile at each other. Again.
