Letter: Show some Christian compassion

(Rick Egan | Tribune file photo) Angry residents react when the Utah County Commission meeting was adjourned before it even started, Wednesday, July 15, 2020, in Provo, Utah.

To the room full of angry Utah County parents,

I wear a mask nearly every day for several hours, as a requirement for the kind of work I do (even before the pandemic). I assure you, I have not had an anoxic brain injury, nor do I have too much carbon dioxide in my body as a result. However, I have seen what happens to a vulnerable person when this virus infects them. I have watched the devastation it causes family members of loved ones lost. There’s scientific data that suggests wearing masks helps reduce the spread of this virus.

I can’t find the same kind of evidence about a tyrannical government, with roots in forcing citizens to wear masks, in the interest of public health. Although, I must admit I only read my local news, and don’t rely on my social media feed as a source for my news, so the evidence might be out there. In the meantime, please show some Christian compassion and have your children wear masks when they go to school, to help protect those who are vulnerable. You all are starting to sound like a bunch of snowflakes.

Ben Christensen, Millcreek
