Letter: Republicans are not really pro-life

(J. Scott Applewhite | AP file photo) The U.S. Capitol is seen at sunrise in Washington on Jan. 21, 2020.

There they go again.

By supporting a ruling that allows some businesses to refuse to cover birth control with their insurance plans, Republicans have again proven that they are not pro-life, they are pro-controlling women.

If they were truly pro-life, they would want every pregnancy to be a joyful occasion. They would want all pregnant women to have access to prenatal care and all children to have access to health care. They would want mothers who have to work to support their families access to safe and affordable child care. They would want a livable wage so that parents don't have to be away from their children while they work two or three jobs to put a roof over their heads and food in their mouths.

My brother likes to tell me that I support baby-killers because I am a Democrat. I challenge anyone to give me one example of what those of the Repulican Party have done to make abortion less neccesary. Calling women murderers with no mention of the man involved does not count.

We should all be truly pro-life by allowing women the option of deciding when to have children and how many they can afford. Only by doing this, and having reasonable sex education in our schools, can we make make abortion less necessary.

It isn't a coincidence that the abortion rate falls during the terms of Democratic presidents.
