When the Interstate Highway System was in the beginning phase, in the 1950s, there was talk of building the freeway on the west side of Utah Lake. Naturally there was a lot of opposition to that, as the majority of the people lived on the east side of the lake.
Now we are faced with a choice of improving the road on the west side of the lake, brought to the forefront with the slow evacuation of residents due to the Knob Hill Fire.
I feel that now would be an excellent time to again focus on and build this freeway. Freeing up through traffic on I-15, through Orem and Provo, would also be of benefit.
It would tie into the Legacy Highway and the Bangerter Highway and could meet I-15 just south of Nephi.
It would allow a lot of through traffic to avoid the Orem/Provo area completely and allow an exodus of people from the area when the next fire happens.
Which it will.
