Michelle Quist’s Opinion piece on June 11, “Time to apologize for church’s racist history,” was exactly what needed to be said. I appreciate her not mincing words about the great need for an apology. Knowing the LDS history of whitewashing truth, no one is holding their breath. LDS President Russell Nelson’s recent statement, “Any of us who has prejudice toward another race needs to repent” rings hollow until they follow their own advice.
I was hoping for a little introspection on the leaders’ part to see that until they can own up to the past, they are not going to be leaders but always the followers. There is no repentance without an apology. Maybe the women like Sister Quist should be in charge for a while.
