Letter: Get out the vote

(Alyssa Pointer | Atlanta Journal-Constitution via AP file photo) Fulton County employee Shaye Moss scans mail-in paper ballots at the Georgia World Congress Center during the Georgia primary elections in Atlanta on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

As an old, very white grandma, I implore young people and all minorities to vote this year. When I say “minorities,” I mean people who are not of the predominant skin color, are not of the culture, are not of the predominant religion, and are of the predominant sex. Why did I include women? Because even though we are more numerous than men, we are still often not considered to be or treated as men’s equals.

Though I will not tell you how to vote, I strongly encourage you to define the society and government you would like to live in. Then research the candidates to find the ones whose values match yours. You may find that the candidates you decide to vote for don’t mirror the parties or philosophies your family has always supported. So be it.

If you aren’t registered, get registered today; it is so easy and so necessary. Go to secure.utah.gov/voterreg to start.

Please vote and make this old grandma proud of you.
