Letter: Article exposes greed and danger

The Salt Lake Tribune’s May 1 article about the nursing home debacle now in place under the administration of the Beaver Valley Hospital has brought to light the incompetence and overt malpractice being foisted on our disabled, elderly and those with needed care in these specific locations.

Why has this happened and why is it being allowed to continue and, in some instances, flourish?

Simple. Our governor and the responsible regulatory and oversight agencies sit on their politically controlled derrieres, disregarding the need to oversee and protect these affected residents.

Exactly why the hell is a small hospital in a backwater location like Beaver, population 3,100, operating 44 of these type refuges for the elderly and infirm throughout the state and garnering millions of taxpayer dollars?

The Tribune and the Utah Investigative Journalism Project have done a meritorious job in revealing this type of greed-influenced operation that, considering the yet fully unexplained deaths of certain of the residents, tends to measure up to verging on a criminal enterprise.

I don't always agree with The Tribune’s continual use of those overpaid, ultra-liberal mouthpieces from the New York, Washington and Miami media, but this particular article reflects the highest level of journalistic effort with its detail and apparent totally objective approach.

Congratulations, Tribune.
