Letter: Promote the general welfare

When the president was inaugurated, he swore on a Bible that he would “uphold the Constitution of the United States.” The first paragraph of the Constitution states: “promote the general welfare.”
What is more relevant to “promoting the general welfare” than providing the essential virus testing necessary to reopen our country and prevent further unnecessary deaths? It is the responsibility of the president and the federal government under his leadership to generate and provide appropriate testing.
It’s time for the president to stop foisting his sworn responsibility onto others and protecting only himself and his welfare and start “promoting the general welfare” of all the people of the United States.
