Letter: Are Utah officials hiding the real numbers?
(Rick Bowmer | AP file photo) Utah Gov. Gary Herbert speaks during a news conference announcing that Utah-based Merit Medical is now making a coronavirus sample and collection kit at its facility Tuesday, April 21, 2020, in South Jordan, Utah.
Recently, The Salt Lake Tribune reported that the Salt Lake County sheriff’s office will not disclose how many people in the county jail have tested positive for COVID-19. The article also pointed out that correction systems statewide are also keeping mum about their numbers. More cover-ups for the state of Utah as they continue to miscount and downplay the number of people who are sick and dying.
Are the people who die with COVID symptoms not counted if they pass away without getting a test? How about the people who die at home with COVID symptoms or the vulnerable people in nursing homes?
I have noticed that, often, families go to the press to announce the death of a loved one and then that death is finally counted. I am very concerned about the lack of transparency in this health crisis and wonder what the real numbers are that our state governmental officials are hiding.
