Letter: A skeleton success story

(Photo courtesy of Akwasi Frimpong) Ghanan slider Akwasi Frimpong, right, and coach Zach Lund celebrate Frimpong's victory in the international race at the 2020 Western Regionals at Utah Olympic Park near Park City on Feb. 29, 2020. The Salt Lake City skeleton racer's win was also Africa's first sliding victory.

With the lack of competitive team sports due to the coronavirus, it was refreshing to see the excellent article in the April 8 Salt Lake Tribune about Ghana’s Akwasi Frimpong’s success on the skeleton. I wish him success in his quest for the 2022 Olympics.

His coach Zach Lund was an outstanding skeleton athlete. As you stated, he was fifth in the 2010 Olympics and also World Cup Skeleton Champion in 2006-2007. Utah can be proud of both as they represent the best in athletics.

I wish them both success in 2022.

Jim Fowler, Salt Lake City
