Letter: Wake up, Latter-day Saints

(Manuel Balce Ceneta | AP) President Donald Trump speaks during a news conference at the Brady press briefing room of the White House in Washington on Feb. 26, 2020.

Wake up, Latter-day Saints.

Articles of faith that are part of the covenant made at baptism upon joining the LDS faith include: “We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men. … If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things. … We believe … in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.”

And how can we as “Christians” ignore what Jesus taught as the two greatest commandments, to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” and to “love your neighbor as yourself?” (Matthew 22:37-39)

Tragically, Donald Trump is the antithesis of these vitally important teachings.

As Jesus also taught, “No man can serve two masters. … You cannot serve God and Money.” (Matthew 6:24)

It’s inescapable; we cannot not choose who we serve. As we put our support behind various candidates at every level of government, and exercise our opportunity to vote, will we choose the most honest, virtuous, praiseworthy and loving people to represent us and guide our government?

A fellow aspiring Christian,
