Letter: Does the truth still matter?

(Andrew Harnik | AP) National Security Council aide Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman testifies before the House Intelligence Committee on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, during a public impeachment hearing of President Donald Trump's efforts to tie U.S. aid for Ukraine to investigations of his political opponents.

In a recent interview, former Republican Sen. Rick Santorum was questioned by fellow panelist about whether hearing from John Bolton would help senators get to the truth in the impeachment trial of President Trump.

He said, "Getting to the truth is irrelevant, certainly for the price that it would inflict upon the Senate to have this further testimony come forward!”

In his public questioning at the House impeachment hearing, Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, director of European affairs for National Security Council, wanted to assure his Russian immigrant father that testifying was safe because, “This is America … and here right matters.”

This seems to be the essence of what Americans are being called to choose, and I hope and pray that truth still matters.
