Letter: Withhold the articles of impeachment
(J. Scott Applewhite | AP) Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., meets with reporters on the morning after the House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, at the Capitol in Washington, Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019.
Nancy Pelosi is a genius.
Withholding the articles of impeachment from the Senate until a fair trial can be held is great strategy. Perhaps she can pull a Merrick Garland and claim it would be inappropriate to hold the trial in an election year. This would pose some interesting outcomes.
Donald Trump would be allowed to continue to make embarrassing mistakes and have the indefensible be defended by his party. All the negative press would most certainly result in lost Senate and House seats and the presidency. The Senate could end up with a Democrat as majority leader.
If reelected, Trump could get a fair trial and be removed from office.
Looks like a win-win for Democrats and our great nation.
