Letter: Gondolas would spell disaster for Little Cottonwood Canyon

(Gero Breloer | AP file photo) A woman looks out from inside one of the Peak 2 Peak gondola cabins that span the distance between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010.

The Dec. 21 story by Brian Maffly regarding a gondola in Little Cottonwood Canyon read like an infomercial for the ski resorts and the gondola industry. There was only a single mention of the “major visual impact” aerial transit would have in the canyon.

If such a story was fair, it would tell readers that some of the towers would be more than 200 feet tall and create an eyesore from almost everywhere in the canyon. It would tell us that the towers, cables and cabins would make the canyon little more than an amusement park centered around the resorts. But, instead, the Trib chose to be a shill attempting to normalize and be an advocate for this potential disaster.
