Letter: Something must be done about climate change

In today’s society, everyone is dependent on fossil fuels for everything, and the results are destroying the world. Pollution is becoming a bigger threat to ruining the environment and climate change is increasingly becoming an issue.

Climate change is happening on a global level, and it is heartbreaking. There are shifting weather patterns, increasing carbon content in the air and the global temperature has been rising at an alarming level.

According to NASA, “The planet's average surface temperature has risen about 1.62 degrees Fahrenheit (0.9 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century, a change driven largely by increased carbon dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere.”

We are not doing enough to try and fix this issue, and the planet is suffering. We are getting to a point where climate change may not be able to be reversed. Carbon dioxide and other gases have heat-trapping abilities, and this has been a large contributor in the current warming trend.

Global warming has been happening at rates that we haven’t seen before, and it’s creating serious problems, and will continue to have negative results. Something needs to be done about this.
