Letter: What would it take, Republicans?

(Alex Brandon | AP file photo) President Donald Trump stands during a Presidential Medal of Freedom ceremony for auto racing great Roger Penske in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington on Oct. 24, 2019.

Without going into particulars, and there are many, I have three questions I would like to ask my Republican friends, neighbors and especially elected officials:

1. What would our president have to do that he hasn't already done to change your minds about his fitness for office?

2. What would you say if a Democratic president had done what Trump has done? For example, alienating and abandoning allies while embracing ideological enemies like Russia, China and North Korea.

3. If what he appears to have done does not fit the criteria for impeachment and removal from office as defined by our founding fathers in the Constitution, what possibly could qualify for those actions?

Forget politics. What standards should we hold our president to? What precedent will we be setting? We are all Americans and must look objectively at the evidence that is being presented. This is a crucial point in our history!
