Letter: Trump is a Putin marionette

(Tim Ireland | AP file photo) A large puppet portraying Donald Trump is carried as people gather in Trafalgar Square, central London, to demonstrate against the state visit of President Donald Trump, on June 4, 2019.

Jay Blackett, in the Oct. 26 Public Forum, appears to embrace Donald Trump, a pathological liar, a criminal, a wannabe dictator beholden to Vladimir Putin, who plays him like a marionette.

A skilled former KGB colonel, Putin tricked our citizens to elect Trump. Putin’s main goal is to destroy the US and NATO; then Russia will become the world leader. Putin is well on his way.

Trump’s economy was inherited from Obama while in an upward trajectory. Obama inherited a collapsed economy from the Bush administration. We lost 700,000 jobs a month with a jobless rate headed to 10 percent.

Trump claimed he inherited “a mess.” Quite the contrary. Trump and George W. Bush prefer the same economic formula — tax cuts, higher spending and aggressive deregulation. If Trump’s record will follow Bush’s, it should be no surprise.

Blackett shrugs off the obvious threat to our democracy. Trump rejects our values, our institutions, our laws and sends faithful allies to their deaths, destroying our very honor. Our standing amongst countries is in shambles. The level of Trump’s corruption is rampant, as in dictatorships across the globe.

Ask yourselves: What’s better, “The economy, stupid?” Or “the loss of freedom, decency and honor, stupid?”
