Letter: Don’t be surprised by mistrust of Mormons

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Luz Escamilla, candidate for Salt Lake City mayor.

I was surprised by the Salt Lake Tribune article where Luz Escamilla expressed dismay over the fact that some voters challenged her ability, as a Mormon, to keep church and politics separate if she is elected mayor of Salt Lake City.

Maybe she needs to realize what Salt Lake City voters see on Capitol Hill, where the majority of representatives and senators are Mormon.

Do they see the repeated failure of keeping church and state separate? Of course they do, and that is exactly why they are worried about her role as mayor. The examples are just too numerous to list.
