Letter: Marxists hiding in plain sight

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Protesters attend a rally in front of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in West Valley City in support of Cecilia Figueroa on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019.

The Aug. 31 Salt Lake Tribune story regarding Cecilia Figueroa’s deportation includes an image of protest signs with Che Guevara and reference to website pslweb.org (Party for Socialism and Liberation).

Che Guevara was a Marxist revolutionary, not a socialist. During his time in Cuba after the Marxist revolution, he oversaw establishment of a concentration camp for enemies of the state, including priests, intellectuals, former military, homosexuals and business owners. He also directed executions and was a racist toward people of African descent and Mexicans.

Pslweb.org has a headline banner stating “The only solution to the deepening crisis of capitalism is the socialist transformation of society.” It gets better; the link “Liberation School – Study Guide – What is to be done” leads to teachings of Lenin from 1902.

As usual, The Salt Lake Tribune does a poor job in reporting the background of the person in the story if they reflect the liberal positions The Tribune supports.

Figueroa is portrayed as an immigrant rights activist who helps with health care and nutrition, which may be true. But it raises the question of why Marxists are supporting her?
