Letter: A sad goodbye to The Tribune

(Paul Fraghton | Tribune file photo) The Salt Lake Tribune office building at the Gateway mall.

I am 71 years old, and our family has had a Salt Lake Tribune at our morning door for all of those years and more.

I recognize that coverage of the LDS Church is important to the predominant culture. However, as expressed in the Sept. 16 letter from Janel Green VanDenBerghe, the persistent and dogmatic coverage of the LDS Church news, at the expense of national and international news has become too much for us.

So it is with a sad goodbye that I will be canceling my subscription today and going with The New York Times. Hopefully someday in the future The Tribune will once again truly become “Utah’s independent voice.”

Support free news for Utah

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources. As a nonprofit newsroom, we rely on support from people who believe it matters. Make a donation today to fund local news that serves Utah communities.
