Letter: It’s time for Romney to stand up to Trump

(Francisco Kjolseth | Tribune file photo) Sen. Mitt Romney speaks with the editorial board of the Salt Lake Tribune on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, Mitt Romney made a speech at the Hinckley Institute, University of Utah. In that speech he called Donald Trump nearly every name possible that could be stated on TV.

That speech was rebroadcast on stations all across the nation and has been viewed on YouTube over 25 million times.

Just a few of the names Romney labeled Trump with were fake, phony, con man and fraud. Every name that Romney called Trump has become even more true as time goes by.

Then, after Trump was elected president, Romney made a trip asking for a job in his administration. Over dinner — followed, of course, by a big and most beautiful piece of chocolate cake ever — Romney was turned down.

It's time for Romney to stand up and leave a lasting legacy for his family and country.

If the senator wants to go down in history as a true patriot and one of the good guys, it's time for him to stand up, speak out and do something to stop this madness.

As I am writing this, Trump is at war on Twitter with the prime minister of Denmark, of all places. Simply because she told him that Greenland was not for sale and never would be. Before that, it was the Jews living in the U.S. who were called stupid and unpatriotic. Not long ago it was with the prime minister of our good friends in Canada. Who will it be tomorrow?

It's noticeable that Trump never says anything bad about his BFFs Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un.

The future of our country and perhaps our world is at stake. If Romney takes the lead, others will follow.

The country and the world is watching you Mitt. Stand up and be a patriot.
