Letter: RESULTS helps people learn to speak out

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Claire Stradling, 7, joins her family along with Utah Jewish Community organizations, their members and friends as they gather outside of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office at 2975 S. Decker Lake Drive, West Valley City, on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, for a Close The Camps vigil.

The idea of speaking your mind about injustice, poverty, hunger and other issues is the heart of democracy. (“Speak your mind, even if your voice shakes,” by Holly Richardson, Tribune, Aug. 23)

Not sure how to start? Thirty-nine years ago, RESULTS (results.org) was founded to help people learn to use their voices to bring an end to the worst aspects of hunger and poverty. Whether it is protecting SNAP, supporting the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, or advocating for affordable housing, RESULTS trains advocates of all ages, from all walks of life, to make a difference.

Why not add your voice? There is a RESULTS group in Salt Lake ready to assist you.

Willie Dickerson, Snohomish, Wash.
