Letter: How is being gay newsworthy?

(Rick Egan | Tribune file photo) Ed Smart talks to the media at the Utah State Prison in Draper, Utah, after a parole hearing for Wanda Barzee on June 12, 2018. The father of Utah kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart has come out as gay, saying his decision brings challenges but also "huge relief." Ed Smart said in a letter explaining his decision shared Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, with NBC's "Today" show that he no longer feels comfortable being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which opposes same-sex relationships.

How is anyone revealing they are gay newsworthy?

To me this is about as interesting as someone announcing they suddenly realize they like liver and onions.

I don’t care, it is none of my business and I wish the media would just let people be when it comes to this issue.

That includes me. Let me be. I don’t want to know personal private details of people’s lives.
