I don’t understand why the Utah Legislature always feels the need to reinvent the wheel.
All these good ol’ Mormon boys who think no one will use medical cannabis are trying to create a system of distribution that will have the state’s fingers in every aspect of it, and it is just going to mess everything up, like the DABC and our liquor laws.
What they need to do is look at other states that have had systems in place for years and have worked out the kinks and use them as a model. The lawmakers also need to take a trip and visit some privately owned dispensaries in our neighboring states to see how they work. See the tight security they use, the knowledgeable employees who know their products, etc.
The state wants to rely on pharmacists who have never learned anything in pharmacy school about medical cannabis. The Legislature can come up with the regulations, but if they would allow dispensaries to be privately owned and operated, so the most knowledgeable people were actually able to assist the customers, it would be so much better.
It’s almost like the Legislature wants it to fail.
