Letter: God loves both liberals and conservatives

A recent letter to the editor argued that diversity isn’t a strength but that “shared values” are. The letter should have said, “her values.”

Progressives to extreme conservatives of all races and religions have the shared values of love of country, love of family and love of God/humanity. The majority want a job that allows them to put food on the table, a roof over their family’s head and a good education for their children. And all have members who flout the law.

As for free markets, that only works when there is an even playing field. Philosophies may differ on where to draw the line to keep them free, but considering a variety of concerns often leads to better solutions.

What immigrant or citizen is trying to remake America in the image of the culture they fled? It is disingenuous to say “I’m not anti-immigrant, just anti-illegal immigration” urging everybody to stand against open borders but being OK with the current policy that is just this side of closed borders.

“We Americans striving to be good moral people” means all, not just those who look like, worship like and believe just like you or me.

I believe God loves liberals and conservative and loves those who sacrificed everything to try to enter the country legally only to be thrown in a detention center because processing has slowed to a crawl. Democrats and Republicans didn’t have the guts to stand up to the extremes of their party and overhaul the immigration system, and blaming those who are trying to truthfully immigrate legally only to be used as political pawns isn’t close to Heaven’s gate.
