Letter: Our congressmen should speak out on Trump

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Rob Bishop on April 21, 2018.

I have been trying to understand the silence of Sen. Mike Lee and Reps. Rob Bishop and Chris Stewart in the face of President Trump’s racist attack on four congresswomen of color.

It is clear that Trump is using the attack as a distraction from his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein — something about which our esteemed representatives have also been silent.

The only explanation I have come up with for their silence on the racist tweets are:

1. They fear retaliation from Trump if they speak out and are too attached to their offices to take the risk of an attack by Trump, or 2. They share Trump’s racist conviction. Either way, they lack the moral fiber necessary to represent the people of Utah.
