Letter: Our ‘stable genius’ needs to be shoveled out
(Carolyn Kaster | AP file photo) President Donald Trump points to the cheering crowd as he leaves an Independence Day celebration in front of the Lincoln Memorial, Thursday, July 4, 2019, in Washington. Trump roused a political tempest when he decided to plant himself squarely in Independence Day observances with a speech from the Lincoln Memorial. His words from that platform, though, were strikingly measured, except for some befuddlement over American military history.
Our president’s 4th of July speech, describing how George Washington’s army secured the airports, defended Ft. McHenry, etc., during our War of Independence, provides new insight into his “stable genius.” The problem with a stable, of course, is the frequent need to shovel out the horse hockey.
