Letter: LGBTQ activism: We still have work to do
(Francisco Kjolseth | Tribune file photo) Thousands participate in the Utah Pride Parade in Salt Lake City on Sunday, June 2, 2019.
It’s difficult to miss the countless Pride flags that wave in Utah this month, testifying not only to more than 50 years of queer activism, but also the years to come.
Rates of suicide and self-harm among queer youth are staggeringly high. HIV prevention exists, while remaining unattainable to those most vulnerable. And the federal safeguards promised by the Equality Act hang precariously in limbo.
As June draws to a close, please remember that we are not done yet. Even as your rainbow gear returns to the closet for another year, don’t let your incredible spirit and irreplaceable support do the same. Because we still have work to do.
