Letter: Trump is a ‘draft dodger’
(Evan Vucci | AP file photo) President Donald Trump talks with reporters before departing on Marine One for the Air Force Academy graduation ceremony, Thursday, May 30, 2019, in Washington.
I visited my family graves on Memorial Day, including that of my stepdad who raised me and spent three years as a sailor in the South Pacific during World War II. As I watched the commemorative services on television, and as a veteran myself, I just kept thinking how Donald J. Trump used trumped up excuses to get five draft deferments and avoided any military service during the Vietnam War and any military service at all. Someone went in his stead, and someone may have died in his stead.
I urge my fellow Utah military veterans to remember on election day that Trump — I hesitate to use the title “president” — was and is what was known in those horrible days as a “draft dodger.”
