Letter: Biden would lose to Trump. And Trump knows it.

(Matt Rourke | AP file photo) Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden speaks during a campaign rally at Eakins Oval in Philadelphia on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

How come nobody is reporting the patently obvious fact that Donald Trump wants Joe Biden to be the Democratic nominee in 2020?

Trump’s insults are intended to galvanize Democratic voter support behind Biden so his early lead will be enhanced and generate the momentum to secure the Democratic nomination. Trump rightly sees Biden — yet another Republican-lite centrist — as his most beatable opponent, and pushing Democrats to defend Biden against attack is the best way to do that.

If the truly progressive candidates were wise, they’d see that their combined support surpasses Biden’s, chose one of them to take the point as the presidential candidate, and then run as an administration with each of them being presented as a future cabinet head or vice president. That’s the way to beat Trump.
