I have a modest proposal for the legislators opposing abortion, no matter what the circumstances.
I propose that:
Every “pro-life” legislator take full responsibility for the life — that is, the love, nurturing care, education, medical expenses and overall well-being — of every unwanted child in the legislator’s state.
In the event of a rape and subsequent pregnancy of a pubescent girl, the “pro-life” legislator assume responsibility for not only the birth expenses, but the economic, psychiatric and rehabilitative care the young mother and her child will most likely need — probably for many years.
These guardians of the “right to life” ignore the loss of life, often with U.S. complicity, throughout the world. This is their chance to make it right.
