Letter: Disrespect for Cinco de Mayo

(Leah Hogsten | Tribune file photo) Tuttilli Ballet Folklorico dancer Yesenia Rivas performs at the Cinco de Mayo Celebration, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Centennial Park in West Valley City.

I was disappointed by seeing no mention of the Cinco de Mayo holiday on the front page of my May 5 Salt Lake Tribune newspaper.

Surely your editors must have considered putting such an important and recognized holiday at the forefront. This omission might indicate your failure to recognize the increasing Hispanic population of Utah, and indeed, of our nation.

It was sadly ironic to see your Page 1 headline, “Calling out racism in high school athletics,” while your own racism might be perceived in your omission of coverage of the Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
