Letter: Climate change will get us before depleted uranium does

(Photo courtesy of EnergySolutions) In this 2015 courtesy photo, EnergySolutions is temporarily storing barrels of depleted uranium in a controlled warehouse at their Clive facility in Utah's west desert. The Utah Department of Environmental Quality is finalizing its regulation for how this waste will be processed. It will eventually be buried in a cell at the Clive facility.

I see the governor chose not to sign House Bill 220, the depleted uranium bill into law, just letting it become law, supposedly to protect Clive.

I’m sure Clive will probably thrive with the completion of the inland port. I really don’t see a problem with allowing the storage of depleted uranium. It’s going to take a million years to become a problem. Climate change is going to bring an end to the earth in a matter of a hundred or hundreds of years.

I am so sorry to know my grandchildren and great grand children are facing such a horrible future because our illiterate leaders choose to ignore or deny global warming.

Bill Adams, Holladay
