Letter: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints may not be Mormon anymore — but I am
(Francisco Kjolseth | Tribune file photo) Mourners cross temple square on their way to the Conference Center to pay their last respects to LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson during his funeral service in Salt Lake City on Jan. 12, 2018.
The Salt Lake Tribune reported on Friday that the AP has decided to comply with recent directives about how to refer to the church I grew up in, and its members. Though I might not like the AP’s decision about what to call the church, I understand it: President Nelson has a position of authority in the organization that I do not. But I do not want the AP (or anyone else) to stop calling me Mormon. Nelson may no longer be Mormon — but I am.
