Letter: $10 billion in profits without tax?
(Cliff Owen | The Associated Press) In this Sept. 13, 2018, file photo, Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO, speaks at The Economic Club of Washington's Milestone Celebration in Washington. A rich list by wealth compiler Hurun Report shows the market meltdowns in 2018 obliterated $1 trillion in wealth, with more than 212 of China's richest individuals losing their dollar billionaire status. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos led the world's wealthiest for the second year running, estimated by the Hurun Global rich list at $147 billion.
Bezos’ Amazon company had over $10 billion in profit last year and didn’t pay one penny in corporate taxes. It’s hard for me to comprehend since I’ve been paying taxes on my Social Security income these past 15-plus years. There has to be a big problem with our tax system! Corporations skirt the tax laws where the little man pays his “dues!” I would say the system is broken!
