Letter: We will never see 100 percent voter turnout

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Sen. Jacob Anderegg, R-Lehi, becomes animates as he speaks on SB171, which now will allow legislators to intervene in court to defend the laws they pass Ñ instead of depending on the attorney generalÕs office to do so. The Legislature called itself into special session to attempt to override Gov. Gary Herbert's vetoes of two bills.

In The Salt Lake Tribune of Jan. 27 we were blessed with the wisdom of Jacob Anderegg, a Republican state senator from Lehi. He states that 80 percent of the people in his district voted against Prop. 3.

I would be embarrassed to admit that and still call myself a Christian. Apparently providing medical benefits to the poor and underprivileged is not part of the beliefs of the voters in Lehi.

Statewide, Prop 3 earned 53 percent of the vote. Anderegg dismissed that number because not all the people in the state voted. If we follow that thinking, our Legislature would be empty because 100 percent of the voters will never vote.

Thanks for letting us know, Jacob, that when you were elected, 100 percent of the people in Lehi voted.

Mark Miller, Holladay
