Letter: Get out of Afghanistan. Build the wall.

Building the wall on our entire southern border is essential to our security and sovereignty as a nation. As we are now spending $45 billion a year keeping the war going in Afghanistan, to no avail, it would be a win /win for the American people to spend that money on border security. Having a caravan of literally thousands of people coming up here in the past several months, and continuing to come, who want and need help when they arrive, is a national emergency and nothing less.

We need to have strictly enforced immigration policies and quotas that provide, also, an equal opportunity for people from all over the world, not just Latin America.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
