Letter: The real reason Obama cut military spending may surprise you

At the recent news conference, I heard President Donald Trump say he could never forgive President Barack Obama for gutting military spending in 2011.

I assume he heard some numbers on the subject from Rush Limbaugh or “Fox and Friends.” Does he ever check those numbers out?

All it takes is a little memory to remember why Obama cut the military budget then. We had just gotten out of Iraq, which had been our biggest military expenditure, by far. That money was no longer needed because we were no longer over there. If you remove the hundreds of billions we were spending on the military in Iraq before the pullout, Obama actually gave a minor increase to the military budget in the following year.

It would be nice if Trump would not just accept as fact something he hears on TV or sees on the Internet.
