Dear Democrats,

Congratulations, but don’t blow it. Don’t waste time talking “impeachment.” You didn’t ride in on the blue wave we were expecting, but on a surge of discontent. You won because women and young people turned out to express outrage at the bully with a pulpit. You won because many Republicans are horrified at the disgrace the current administration brings to the Party of Lincoln. You won because independents believe in checks and balances.

You didn’t win to fire up more discontent with impeachment talk. There’s no time. Your job is to check, block and tackle. Check the powers of the megalomaniac in the White House. Check his ability to derail the Mueller investigation. Block funding for that asinine border wall. Tackle the health care problem 13 million Americans face since the Affordable Care Act was repealed.

Use the next two years to remind us of what dignified debate, common sense and prudent compromise look like. Look for a rising star among those diverse, newly elected Democrats.

Give us a candidate who is not divisive, but who will inspire Democrats, disillusioned Republicans, Independents, women, minorities and young people. Be the wave that turns the tide in 2020. Don't blow it.
