Letter: Where is the outrage over prescription deaths?

(The Salt Lake Tribune | Kathy Stephenson) Supporters of Proposition 2 picked up T-shirts and lawn signs during a kick-off rally in Midvale.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Utah Medical Association and others claim they oppose Proposition 2, the medical cannabis initiative, because they worry for the safety of those who choose to use cannabis and cannabis-infused products.

Surely that cannot be the case, because tens of thousands of Americans die or are seriously injured each year while using prescribed medications. Where is their outrage over such incidents? Why are they not calling upon “the faithful” to vote for politicians and policies that will put an end to opioid addiction and accidental overdose deaths from any of the many other dangerous prescription medicines?

Vote YES on Prop 2!
