Letter: Old Testament is the root of anti-gay bigotry and hate

(J. Scott Applewhite | The Associated Press) In this June 4, 2018, photo, American Civil Liberties Union activists demonstrate in front of the Supreme Court in Washington. The Supreme Court is ordering Washington courts to take a new look at the case of a florist who refused to provide services for the wedding of two men because of her religious objection to same-sex marriage.

While I applaud the alliance of faith leaders meeting to help lessen the number of suicides in Utah, it should be noted that the Old Testament, followed by Christians, Jews and Muslims, teaches that gay sex is evil and should be punished.

Getting rid of the Old Testament, which was written long before there were Christians, Jews and Muslims, would be a major step away from bigotry and hate.
