Letter: McAdams and Love should be ashamed for dissing Pelosi, a champion of human rights

(Tribune file photos) Mia Love, left, and Ben McAdams, right, historically have both used orange in their campaigns.

In his TV ad, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, who is challenging Rep. Mia Love for the 4th Congressional District seat, states he wouldn’t vote for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi as speaker. He should be ashamed of himself; this statement is shameless and ignorant politically expedient drivel and sanctions the Republican mantra on Pelosi.

Pelosi has an extraordinary record of defending the civil and human rights of minorities, women and the LGBT community. If legislators like Pelosi were not champions of civil and human rights, we'd be denying African-Americans from marrying Caucasians and banning Mormons from practicing their religion freely.

Love is shameful as well. She is against same-sex marriage yet bathes in the glory of Pelosi's record to sustain her right to marry as she pleases and practice her Mormon faith as she pleases. More egregious, Love is enabling Republicans to trample the rights she enjoys.
