Letter: The anonymous op-ed writer should be thanked, not exposed

(Evan Vucci | The Associated Press) President Donald Trump listens to Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah during a meeting in the Oval Office of the White House, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, in Washington.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy said, “This [anonymous op-ed writer] did not have the courage to attach his name to this explosive essay” (New York Times, Sept. 7, 2018).

He or she had the courage to get it published and risk identification and the wisdom to keep his/her name off it. Had the writer been identified, he/she would be fired and no longer able to do the job of resistance felt necessary to moderate President Donald Trump’s volatile leadership style. This person has put country over partisanship whether we agree with his/her position or not and should be thanked for doing it.
