Letter: Lyman is not a powerless political football

(Courtney Tanner | The Salt Lake Tribune) San Juan County Commissioner Phil Lyman speaks about running for the Utah House seat left open by Rep. Mike Noel's retirement on Thursday, April 5, 2018.

I don’t know about you, but I found it rather rich that Phil Lyman — who but for nothing other than the color of his skin is one of the privileged — in an op-ed (next to that of Willie Grayeyes no less) talks about how sick he and others like him are of being treated like political footballs to be kicked around by those with the political power to do so.

He also stated that it was about time to give Utahns a seat at the table when making decisions about national monuments.

Of course, he forgets to mention the need to have other Utahns, Native Americans — also rural — seated at the same table!
