Letter: We’re saying death from opioids is an ‘epidemic.’ Why aren’t we treating guns the same way?

Demonstrators lie on the floor during a protest against gun violence, at the Publix store on East Colonial Drive near downtown Orlando, Fla., Friday, May 25, 2018. The Orlando demonstration was one of numerous across the state after anti-gun activist David Hogg called for a coordinated demonstration. Hogg is a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, where a gunman killed 17 students and faculty on Feb. 14. (Joe Burbank /Orlando Sentinel via AP)

With many of our friends and children dying from opioids we call it an “opioid epidemic,” carefully collect research, sue drug companies and have serious discussions about severely limiting access to these dangerous drugs. Why is it different with guns?
