Letter: Salt Lake City must find a way to recycle plastic bags

Some weeks ago we read that recycling plastic bags in our recycling bins jams up the compacting mechanism of the collection trucks, and we needed to stop doing it. Guiltily, we immediately stopped this destructive habit.
As an alternative, we approached our grocery stores about accepting and recycling our used plastic bags, but none I know of started up such a service.
All has gone quiet on the subject. Are people patiently storing their plastic bags, awaiting further instructions? Or what?
The environmental harm done by not recycling plastic bags must equal or outweigh the property damage to the recycling trucks. It will not go away.
Could we please have a definitive statement on this matter from Salt Lake City leaders? Who will take responsibility?
