Letter: OK, if the election was rigged, let’s make it fair by having a new one

(Pablo Martinez Monsivais | The Associated Press) In this April 16, 2018, photo, President Donald Trump speaks at an event to promote his tax cut package in Hialeah, Fla. Trump will play host to Japan’s Shinzo Abe at Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday amid growing strain between the two countries over the president’s planned meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and his push for new tariffs.

In the Kenya presidential election last year, irregularities were cited. Kenya’s Supreme Court annulled the election and ordered a new vote within 60 days.

In the U.S., President Trump, throughout his campaign and since his election, has made many statements that the election was “rigged” and “millions of votes were cast erroneously,” as well as that Russia did not do anything in regard to meddling with our election.

I wonder if, now that there is proof that Russia interfered with our election, perhaps we should do something similar. Our Supreme Court could order the last election annulled or canceled or set aside and a new election ordered.

The many thousands of voters whose votes were falsely not allowed to be cast during that election could also have a chance to have their voices heard. There might even be an opportunity for many more concerned citizens to organize one or two write-in candidates for those many Americans who felt restricted by the two major candidates the first time.

But of course, this is all moot as our Supreme Court would never follow suit.
