Letter: That we need armed escorts for protesters is incredibly sad

(David J. Phillip | The Associated Press) Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo, center, and Mayor Sylvester Turner, far right, join demonstrators during a March for Our Lives protest for gun legislation and school safety Saturday, March 24, 2018, in Houston. Turner told several thousand people demonstrating for stricter gun control that adults have a responsibility to stand up and protect all children.

In response to D.A. Duncan (“How ironic,” The Tribune, April 3), more than finding the armed escort of the protesters ironic, I find it incredibly sad that this is considered necessary and/or normal.
