Letter: Tribune’s coverage of the LDS conference belongs in the Deseret News

(Jeremy Harmon | The Salt Lake Tribune via AP) In this April 1, 2018 photo, Elder Quentin L. Cook speaks during the afternoon session of General Conference in Salt Lake City. The Mormon church faced more criticism Monday, April 2, about its approach to sexual abuse after Cook, praised the #MeToo movement but referred to sexual misconduct as "non-consensual immorality," a remark that some say could be interpreted as victim blaming.

I thought the Deseret News was the designated source of news for the Mormon faithful. During the current LDS general conference sessions, The Tribune has devoted a large portion of its paper to Mormon news and stories. Also, the coverage has not been confined to the local news section but has dominated the “so-called” main national section.

If a person desires that degree of in-depth Mormon news coverage, then the Deseret News is your paper but for the rest of us, The Tribune needs to be Utah’s independent voice, as it claims to be.
