Letter: So many good works, so little coverage

(Al Hartmann | The Salt Lake Tribune) Marina Costa Jackson plays "Lauretta", left, Wayne Tigges as "Gianni Schicchi " and Melissa Parks as "Zita" in Utah Opera's upcoming double-bill production of Pagliacci / Gianni Schicchi at Capitol Theatre March 10 to 18.

Congratulations to the Utah Opera and Utah Symphony on their recent production of “I Pagliacci” and “Gianni Schicchi.” The high production values and strong casting combined to make this production truly memorable.

Our Utah Symphony players are playing on par with some of the best orchestras I’ve heard. It is truly remarkable to have productions such as this happening right here in our own Capitol Theatre.

Also newsworthy was the Utah debut of Marina Costa-Jackson, a Utah native who’s on a meteoric career path. Marina began her career at the University of Utah and has enjoyed the kind of success that happens only rarely. Saturday marked a victorious return to us, news of which should have been on the front page of the paper in my opinion.

The sad thing to me is the lack of arts coverage in The Salt Lake Tribune. I found no preview, nothing about Marina, not even a review.

The local arts entities need the coverage, and stories about these entities will make the readers need the paper. In my opinion, the arts organizations in Utah combine to make life better here, more elevated, more rich, and they need to be covered even more than ever.
